S.C.U.B.A. DAWGS
CONSTITUTION
Article I
NAME
The name of this organization shall be the S.C.U.B.A. Dawgs.
Article II
PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this organization shall be to promote S.C.U.B.A. diving among the students, faculty, and staff at Mississippi State University
Article II
LOCATION AND GOVERNMENT
- The location of this organization shall be Mississippi State University.
- The organization shall be governed by this Constitution and By-Laws.
Article IV
MEMBERSHIP
- Membership categories shall be defined as either full membership or inactive membership.
- Full membership shall be composed entirely of faculty, staff and students of Mississippi State University.
- Inactive membership shall be composed of alumni and honorary members; however, inactive members may not be allowed to vote or hold office.
- Qualifications for full membership shall be defined as follows:
- Must be faculty, staff or a student of Mississippi State University.
- Must have an interest in S.C.U.B.A. diving at a recreational level.
- All persons wishing to S.C.U.B.A. dive must have certification at an open water level or above.
- Qualifications for inactive membership shall be defined as follows:
- Must have an interest in S.C.U.B.A. diving at a recreational level.
- All persons wishing to S.C.U.B.A. dive must have certification at an open water level or above.
- Full membership shall be selected by the following procedure.
- The interested faculty, staff or student will come to a business meeting during the semester he or she wishes to place membership with the S.C.U.B.A. Dawgs.
- When the potential member pays his or her membership fees, he or she is considered a member of the S.C.U.B.A. Dawgs and is entitled to all of their benefits.
- Inactive membership shall be selected by the following procedure.
- The interested individual will make contact with one of the officers or advisor via e-mail or in person.
- When the potential member pays his or her membership fees, he or she is considered a member of the S.C.U.B.A. Dawgs and is entitled to all of their benefits
Article V
OFFICERS
- All executive powers of the S.C.U.B.A. Dawgs shall be vested in a President, Vice-President, Secretary and a Treasurer. These officers shall be elected in the fall semester in a manner prescribed by the By-Laws and shall serve a term of one year.
- Duties and Powers of Officers:
- Duties and powers of the President
- To organize and plan meetings.
- To organize and plan dives.
- To notify members of meetings and dives.
- To cancel a dive when needed.
- Duties and powers of the Vice-President
- To help organize and plan meetings.
- To help organize and plan dives.
- To help notify members of meetings and dives.
- To cancel a dive when needed.
- Duties and powers of the Secretary
- To take the minutes of each meeting.
- To maintain the organization's website.
- To maintain the organizational membership list
- To help notify members of meetings and dives.
- Duties and powers of the Treasurer
- To take up membership dues at the beginning of each semester.
- To keep an accurate, up-to-date balance on the organization's money account
- To help notify member of meetings and dives.
- The advisor of the S.C.U.B.A. Dawgs shall be a member of the faculty or staff of Mississippi State University.
- The advisor will have a vote in all business meetings
- The advisor will be appointed by the president and voted on by the officers
- The advisor must have S.C.U.B.A. training of the Advanced level or above.
- The advisor must sign all financial transactions and University approval forms for events.
- Removal from office
- A member of the S.C.U.B.A Dawgs shall suggest the removal of an officer or the advisor at a business meeting.
- Before a vote is held to remove an officer from power, the officer shall be allowed to speak, or the officer shall appoint someone to speak for him or her.
- 3/4 of the present members must vote in favor of the removal from office in due process.
- If 3/4 of the present voting members do not vote in favor of the removal from office, then it can be voted on again at the next business meeting.
- If 3/4 of the present voting members vote in favor of the removal from office then it will become effective immediately.
- If the President is removed from office, then the Vice-President shall take over the responsibilities of the President, the Secretary shall take over the responsibilities of the Vice-President and the Treasurer shall take over the responsibilities of both the Secretary and the Treasurer.
- If the Vice-President is removed from office, then the Secretary shall take over the responsibilities of the Vice-President and the Treasurer shall take over the responsibilities of both the Secretary and Treasurer.
- If the Secretary is removed from office, then the treasurer shall take over the responsibilities of both the Secretary and the Treasurer.
- If the Treasurer is removed from office, then the Secretary shall take over the responsibilities of both the Secretary and Treasurer.
Article VI
Meetings
- Meetings shall be conducted in the following manner:
- Roll will be taken.
- Any unfinished business from previous meetings shall be handled appropriately.
- Upcoming dive trips will be announced.
- Members shall have the opportunity to make any suggestions or announcements.
- The meeting will close with the announcement of the next business meeting.
- Roberts Rules of Order will be used in all business meetings.
- If there is a called meeting, the members will be notified at least 3 days prior to that meeting through a written or verbal notice.
- Either the President or the Vice-President will call meetings. The meeting will appear in the Reflector or the individual members will be notified by phone.
- A quorum shall consist of all members present at a meeting.
Article VII
DUES AND ASSESSMENTS
- Dues and assessments shall be changed in the following manner:
- The officers shall determine what the dues and assessments should be made.
- 3/4 of the present voting members must vote in favor of the change.
- If a change in dues is made during the year, it will not go into effect until the following year.
- The dues and assessments will be paid by each member at the beginning of each semester or upon placing membership with the S.C.U.B.A. Dawgs.
- The advisor and one of the four officers must sign all financial transactions.
